Well, we’re back! Our honeymoon in Egypt was an absolute whirlwind of culture, adventure, and beauty. But let me just say, if our beautiful resort in Sharm el-Sheikh didn't try to kill us with an upset stomach or giant bug bites, it wasn't trying hard enough!
☀️ Adventure, Culture, and Google Pay in the Desert
Darren and I definitely explored Sharm with open, excited eyes. Talk about adventure! We went quad biking and rode ATVs in the vast Sinai desert, followed up by a camel ride (which is less romantic and more bouncy than you’d think!). The surreal moment of the trip? Paying a photographer in the absolute center of the desert using Google Pay. Modern life, eh?
We also took a beautiful night excursion to see the local mosque and cathedral, and yes, we got into a few fun rounds of bartering for our shopping. It's all part of the experience!
The culture here is genuinely fantastic. The people are incredibly generous and welcoming, showing a warmth that made us feel right at home immediately. It’s that feeling of true hospitality that just sticks with you.
⚠️ The Trepidatious Truths (Allergies, Water, and Booze)
Now for the real talk, because I always want to be honest with my friends.
The food at the hotel was delicious, but as someone with a nut allergy, it was definitely a trepidatious experience. The staff were diligent, but I was hyper-aware of every single meal. I managed to eat well and avoided most of the tempting sweet treats (which was probably for the best!).
And yes, the water rule is real: because you're in the desert, you absolutely must stick to bottled water for drinking and even for cleaning your teeth.
Despite strictly adhering to those rules (and we are blaming the water and the hygiene, not the amount of delicious, celebratory booze!), both Darren and I suffered a few days of separately sore stomachs. It happens, but it’s a necessary warning for future travelers!
🦟 My Big Sister Warning: The Bugs Are Real
My one, absolute BIG SISTER WARNING goes out to anyone who is susceptible to bug bites: Bring the industrial-strength antihistamines, because you WILL get bitten.
The hotel did their best, coating the whole place in smoke every evening to repel the little demons, but they found me. I had at least twenty small bites around my ankle that caused my whole foot to swell like a balloon. And the itching? It was an aggressive, relentless kind of itch!
✨ The Verdict
So, while our honeymoon was spectacular, beautiful, and full of memories, it’s fair to say it’s not 100% suited to those with severe allergies or those who are walking, talking bug magnets (like me!).
The big question: Would I come back?
Absolutely.
Regardless of the small calamities, this honeymoon was a true experience, an adventure that pushed us, taught us, and gave us memories we will cherish forever.
Until next time.
