At The RoamBlogger, we’re all about shifting our mindset to tackle anxiety and those low-mood days. If you’ve been following my journey, you know that for me, wellbeing isn't just a hobby—it’s a personality trait! I truly believe that trying something new, like Hotpod Yoga, is one of the best ways to shock your system out of a rut and into a state of flow.
But I get it. Stepping into a 37°C, purple-glowing inflatable cocoon can feel a bit intimidating if you don’t know what to expect. To help you lose those "first-class nerves," I’ve put together the ultimate guide on what to wear, what to pack, and how to actually enjoy the heat.
What exactly is Hotpod Yoga?
Unlike traditional hot yoga (which often uses harsh heaters in a gym room), Hotpod Yoga takes place in a patented, heated, inflatable "pod." It’s a total sensory experience:
The Heat: Set to a steady 37°C (mimicking your body temperature).
The Vibe: Dim purple lighting that makes you feel like you're in a futuristic spa.
The Scent: Calming notes of bergamot and lavender to help you breathe deeper.
What to Wear: Forget the Cotton!
The most important thing I wish I’d known? Cotton is the enemy. It absorbs sweat, gets heavy, and makes your practice feel like a workout in a wet blanket.
The Fabric: Opt for "second-skin" moisture-wicking synthetics. You want clothes that move with you, not against you.
The Fit: High-waisted leggings or bike shorts are your best friend. Pro Tip: Avoid baggy t-shirts; they will slide over your head the second you hit Downward Dog!
My Style Hack: Recently, I’ve been wearing Halara-style yoga trousers. They let my legs breathe, and while I feel a bit like MC Hammer, it’s all part of the fun!
The Feet: It’s strictly bare feet inside the pod for grip. I recommend wearing trainers or easy slip-ons for the journey to and from the studio.
What’s in My Gym Bag?
To keep your "Power Hour" production simple, here are the non-negotiables:
A Large Towel: You aren’t just wiping your brow; you need to cover your entire mat to prevent slipping. (You can find my exact "extra-grip" towel on my Wellness Essentials page if you’re looking for an upgrade!)
Hydration is Key: Aim to drink 500ml of water before you arrive. I usually finish a 900ml bottle during the class. Yes, it’s that sweaty!
What to Expect During Your First Flow
Don’t worry about your flexibility—that’s why you’re there! The heat actually helps your muscles loosen up, making it much easier to move than in a cold room.
The Humidity: It feels thick at first. If you feel lightheaded, don’t panic. Just sit on your mat in Child’s Pose. At Hotpod, there is zero judgment.
The "Glow": You will sweat from places you didn’t know could sweat. It’s incredibly detoxifying and leaves your skin (and mind) feeling amazing.
